Past, Present, and Planned Activities

Welcome to Vine Street Community Center

The need for services is great in the West Philadelphia area. High poverty rates and high rates of violence increase homelessness. The American Community Survey (2009-2013) estimates that 28.3% of residents in the service area live below 100% of the poverty level and 54.2% live below 200% of the poverty level. In addition, unemployment rates for the service area are higher than for Philadelphia as a whole. Our goal is to operate a one-stop community center that helps area residents meet their basic needs through enrolment in public benefits; access to utility assistance, rental assistance, and foreclosure diversion services; free income tax preparation; financial education; computer training and open lab access; community meetings and resource fairs; and community engagement and leadership development.
