Job Initiative Program

Job Skills Initiative and College Preparatory Program

With this program we aim to help address barriers to employment through access to an Employment Counsellor, computer training and access, and referrals to other social services and resources, such as job leads. We want to ensure that community residents have the educational attainment and employment experience needed to become highly skilled workers, contributing taxpayers, and successful participants in civic life.

We believe that college education is the pathway to becoming self sufficient and economically empowered. Our goal will be to partner with local colleges, universities, and training programs to provide community residents with the information and resources needed to apply to college, training programs, and other post secondary programs that will allow for the earning of some credential that will increase their income earning potential.

We will exist in a city of 1.5 million people, and only 26% of the city’s residents have college degrees. Our goal is to not only increase enrolment in college amongst the young people in our footprint, but to increase the number of those individuals who obtain a degree. We will do this by hosting various college preparatory events including but not limited to; SAT prep, financial aid workshops, college visits, etc.
